The Tree Mortality Program identified eight projects for 2023:
- Project 41 (National Forest parcels throughout the County): this project was just completed (October 2023). It involved the removal of 312 trees posing hazards to County roads crossing National Forest land. The contractor was Oneto Tree Service of Jackson CA.
- Project 42 (County roads located between Big Trees Village and the Alpine County line): this project includes 130 hazard trees located in the Skyhigh Village and Tamarack communities. The project has been awarded to a contractor and is expected to start in November 2023.
- Project 43 (private land located along County roads within the perimeter of the Butte Fire affected by drought or insect-caused mortality); this project includes 26 trees. It will be put out to bid after completion of tree marking in Project 47 (see below) and it will likely start before the first of the year.
- Project 44 (Big Trees Village): this project includes 145 trees. An Invitation to Bid is being prepared (October 2023) and will likely be issued by December 2023. Because of impending winter weather, it is likely to be implemented next spring after snowmelt.
- Project 45 (Arnold/Blue Lake Springs). this project includes 244 trees. The project has been awarded to a contractor and is expected to start in November 2023.
- Project 46 (Hathaway Pines to Angels Camp, north to the Butte Fire): trees have not been marked in this project. We have received right-of-entry forms from 37 property owners. Anyone who has received a right of entry form for this project should return it as soon as possible to be included in the project.
- Project 47 (West Point to Mokelumne Hill): trees are currently being marked in this project. We have received right-of-entry forms from 53 property owners. Anyone who has received a right of entry form for this project should return it as soon as possible to be included in the project. When tree marking has been completed, this project will be combined with Project 43 and an Invitation to Bid will be issued. Implementation will occur by or shortly after the first of the year.
Maps for Projects 41, 42, 43, and 45 are included below. To reiterate, if you have received a right of entry form for any of these projects return it as soon as possible to be included in the projects. Removal of trees and debris caused by operations is free to the property owner. Only licensed and insured contractors are used in our projects.
